ADAPTATION WRITING

I am known for providing my detail-oriented services to multiple localization and dubbing studios within the US and internationally. These services include adapting/writing, audio description, spot-timing, and QC on translated scripts for dubbing into English. I work with any source language within the realms of lip-sync and UN/Simulsync voice-over style for shows, films, animation, trailers, and more. I work within VOICE Q, ERYTMO, AUTHORING TOOL, as well as adopting any proprietary programs a company may prefer. I enjoy working creatively to problem solve with each project, client, and studio, (while adhering to guidelines) and find great satisfaction in a job well done. As an actor, voice actor (and dubbing actor/writer/director), I am familiar with the necessity of a quality adaptation, and what that means for the directors, actors, and editors/engineers whose work comes after adaptation. Dubbing is a team effort with many steps and I enjoy being a part of the puzzle.

As a Korean American, who understands Korean culture and language, I offer added value for Korean projects. With every source language and genre, I always take a nuanced approach in creative problem-solving to stay true to the culture, character, inclusivity, naturalism, and story I am working on while paying mind to bridge the needs of understanding for the English-speaking audience.

I have adapted for Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, Amazon, domestic, international, and independent studios, and am open to a variety of studios/clients.

I am frequently requested to bring my skill-set to re-adapt or “fix” others’ unsatisfactory adaptations, or to provide demos for the studios.

In addition, I was brought on as a mentor for and have received a certificate from, the CenTraS specialized training program at UCL for dubbing adaptation, led by Prof. Frederic Chaume and Prof. Jorge Díaz-Cintas.

ENGLISH DUB DIRECTING

I bring all of my experience/abilities as an adapter and actor into the room as a dubbing director. I am able to quickly re-write and problem solve in the booth when necessary, and guide each unique actor into their best performances with naturalism and authenticity in an efficient and creative way. I appreciate collaborating with the actors, engineers, editors, and dubbing teams and I choose to bring an air of encouraging, positive and joyful professionalism into each and every session.
